Aux port not working ?

2004 Chevy silverado Has a kenwood cd deck with aux port. However when I plug my cable and iPod into I does not play. I can't even get the deck to get into the aux mode. Dir ruins say to press the source button to get I to the aux mode, but will not only goes from cd to tuner. Is this an installation problem? Or defective deck? The truck was purchased used and the steering wheel controls do not work also for the stereo.

trouble with alpine deck in ford contour ?

so i just purchased an alpine deck and connected in myself because the connector was already there for an aftermarket deck. i purchased the second connector and plugged it in wired everything except for the ground because it worked with out it. it was working fine for a couple weeks and now wont turn on. returned the deck and exchanged it for another re wired it and still dosnt work and this time i connected the ground as well still no power. not sure what it could be yellows connected, blacks connected, antenna connected and illumination etc what could be wrong. i checked the fuse as well and its good

why do i get static when turning on/off headlights ?

I have noticed my system works great EXCEPT when i turn on/off headlights i get a static crackle thru the speakers. This does not happen when useing any other equipment on the truck. Do you think there is a issue with the radio? or is the headlight switch going bad. when i turn anything else on/off in truck this does not happen.

I have a KENWOOD KDC-309,what i would like to know is when I turn off the ignition is the unit still receiving 12v from the batt or will the unit only take enough power from the batt to keep the memory powered. Thank you for any help you can give. Regards.Gary

I hooked up the player and put new rear speakers in. The sound in the back goes up and down. And you can barely hear the front. But when I plug I pod in only back works and volume stays the way it should. This is in a 2000 Chrysler cirrus

I have been fighting with "car audio" for the past few months. My situation is like this. I currently have a 12" JL audio subwoofer..running off an MTX amp. Also, I have 2 4x6 Alpine front speakers..and 2 6x9 Alpine speakers..running off a 4channel Infinity amp. They are all running through my Pioneer head unit. (DEH 4100UB) The problem I am having is..I think I have the loudness..but not the clarity. Im confused with all this..Khz, and 2W stuff. THE QUESTIONS I HAVE ARE.. What should my high pass filter be set to on the deck? EQ Lows-Mids-Highs? I have -6 to +6 to play with. Where should those be? Then I have another EQ menu.. that looks like this.. LOW 2khz 2w MID 1khz 2w HI 8khz 2w.. Something like that..how should those be set? I listen to Rap.Heavy Rock..mainly. Cd player or harness, loss of sound HELP ?

I have a clarion vrx485vd that I bought used but took me a while to install it b/c I have a mazda 6 and requires a special dash kit. Well I got it all installed and my driver side front speaker is playing very low. For instance if I play it at 10 the whole car is loud but inorder to hea that speaker I would have to turn the balance tot hat speaker and crank it to about 16-18 to hear low quality sound. Now I thought maybe it was because of my bose factory system, but that wasn't it b/c I put on the amp interface for the high low freq. So I replaced the speaker, that wasn't it. So I decided to rip it out and put it in my girlfriends jetta, with stock rasio ect and still the same problem. So is it worth me buying a new harness for 70.00 or would it just be a waste of money? Or is it something internal and I would prob have to send it to clarion? Please answer from someone with experience not just someone taking a guess.

What deck and speakers to get?

Looking to upgrade my Tacoma stock sound. I have an infinity kappa perfect sub 12.1 and infinity 1300a amp already. I had a pioneer premier deck before that I was satisfied with and kappa speakers, which were a little too harsh/sharp on the high end for me. But I am looking for 4 speakers, 6.5'',(about 100 a pair or so) and a deck with ipod control(about 200 or so). I will not be running an amp to the speakers and wont be upgrading from this set up. Just want clarity and loudness out of the deck and speakers, the sub I already have is perfectly enough for me. I also don't need to get them at car toys, or any similar store, since I can install it all myself and ebay is much cheaper.

I have a Ford Expedition 2007 with in-dash mp3 player...I burned 3 albums to a disc in mp3 format. My computer recognized them and will play all 3. My dvd/mp3 player will play all 3. The in-dash in my suv will only recognize one album and play it...It says other folders not found...I burned it using Windows Media Player (latest edition) with XP and chose data format when I burned it...Any ideas?

I know most of the wiring harness kits for aftermarket stereo installation uses the same wiring colors as modern head units, but I want to be sure. And I lost the documentation for my CDX-CA710X. Search results pointed me towards brand new stereos and places that charge $5 for a schematic. OK, my stock wiring harness is perfectly intact. I have the harness adapter that plugs into the car's harness. The adapter packaging says which wires do what, but I don't have anything like that for my head unit. I know the adapter's wires are of different colors than the car's harness, but I don't want to do any "guess and check" type stuff. That's the reason I have my current deck - I somehow managed to fry my old one because I wasn't sure which wire did what (this was two years and as many cars ago). I'm trying to avoid that this time around.

Opinion Question for Car Audio Head Unit??

I am upgrading my deck in my car to something a little nicer with more Pre-Amp Outputs because I am adding more amps and everything...Anyway Right now I have some a Pioneer that is pretty easy to use--2600 model its pretty old Should I stick with Pioneer and go with something like the DEH-P4000UB that includes 3 Pre-Amp outputs, a remote, and iPod adapter or...($130-$150) I can go with an Alpine CDA-9884 that also includes 3 Pre-Amp outputs and the iPod adapter ($160-$180) Any suggestions...so far the Pioneer has been foolproof so I don't know if I should switch brands but why is the Alpine priced higher--not just on ebay but the suggested retail price on their websites is almost $50 difference... Alpine $230 Pioneer $185 Will I noticed a difference and just give me some suggestions Thanks

I have a JVC CD/ MP3 player that was working perfecty fine until 2-3 days ago. My car is a Hyundai Sonata 2002. The CD player plays CD's and mp3's but there is no sound coming from the speakers. I replaced it with my older unit but still the same problem. I checked all the fuses, even under the dash and all of them seem to be ok. Any help would be appreciated.

I do not want to use an FM transmitter and compromise sound quality. I drive a 1999 Honda Accord with the original in-dash CD deck with no visible jacks and no cassette deck. If it's required, and as long as it's reasonably priced, I would be willing to buy a new audio unit for the car.

I have a 7" lcd monitor in my car dash. It is connected to a cd/dvd/mp3 player through a video input. I find it gets little uses as I don't watch movies much in my car. I was wondering if there are any other uses for this lcd. For example, can I somehow run a GPS program, or a multimedia/music program to the lcd screen? or anything else I could use this for besides just movies.

I have the Satallite radio directly connected through the antenna, this has always worked, for over 1-2years now. Now all of a sudden i will be listening to SAT radio and "POP" then ost of the time the audio just goes out. and if i change it to CD even on volume 1 it is intenstly loud and distorted. Shut the car off, come back later, works great. sometime it doenst happen, but mostly it does again. This is VERY frustrating, What could it be? Thanks all

Question about installing a car cassette player?

Hi. I have an 2003 Hyundai Elantra and recently its cassette player broke. I used the player to hook up my MP3 player (vie a cassette adapter) and play music through the speakers. I was wondering how difficult it would be to replace. My knowledge about car audio is very limited. Where can I find information on how powerful the built in Cassette player is so that the one I get is at least as good. The broken player is still installed and looks like is actually built in to the car. Below it there is a space where I assume you could attach a CD player or another Cassette player. How can I solve this car cd-player issue?

I purchased a used car a few days ago (a 2007) so fairly new. Well, it's in-dash stereo system is MP3-CD compatible. I tried burning an MP3 CD, burning a regular CD, and using a CD purchase from the store. For all of them, the cd-player said "Reading" for a few seconds, and then spit it out and said "Bad Disc"... Ok bear w/ me, I'm in no way "car savvy". I am getting a 2004 Corolla Sport in January. I want to get a better CD player than just the stock one like one with an aux jack for my Mp3 player and maybe one that is satellite-radio ready or something of the sort. I am concerned because the console that the stock CD player is in is so large that when I install the other CD player that it will look weird or there will be extra open space or something. I've been researching car stereo head units that read usb thumb drives in particular, and probably mp3 CDs as well. I thought the Sony CDX-GT610UI was a good choice since C-NET gave it 8.4/10 stars, but the moddedmustangs.com guys say Sony is garbage. Wal-Mart has a Sony GT61UI for around the same price as the CDX-GT610UI, but not sure what the differences are. Looks like it supports a pre-amp sub-woofer connection? It's around $165 list, but the Pioneer DEH-P690UB supports USB with an included cable, but lists for $219. Both are really a little out of my price range, but I'm not going to by the Virtual Reality VR3 nor am I going to get the Boss 630UA which are apparent junk. Some other people said the Sony CDX-GT610UI had Alpine-quality sound at a lower price. I might at some point consider the addition of a sub, which I'm assuming should really be driven off an amp? Or can I plug the sub into the head unit or drive it off the rear speakers? Suggestions please. --Steve

I've already had an aftermarket head unit installed on my nissan altima, but now i want another head unit. Since an aftermarket head unit has already been installed in my car can i just purchase any head unit and take out the old aftermarket head unit and put in a new one... myself? Not any technical stuff because i just plug in wires now that it already has aftermarket harness and wires? basically is it just plug in wires and harness it in now because all the hard work is done now that an aftermarket head unit has been installed or do i still have get it professionally installed because its not that easy?

I just installed a new head unit and spliced to take power from an existing circuit (used the 12v cig lighter outlet circuit). When I turn on the unit it barely spins the CD and on tuner it makes no sound. The backlight also dims on certain functions. Am I just underpowered? I have the option to run a dedicated new circuit straight from the battery with an in-line fuse. Should I do that?

I recently purchased a Pioneer head unit (Model# DEH-P4800MP) along with the Pioneer Ipod interface adapter (Model# CD-IB100ll) so I could have full control over my ipod through my car stereo. Needless to say I was pretty disappointed and felt like it doesn't do as well as it could. For one, It doesn't scroll any of the ipod text and you have to play with the controls just to get no more than 8 letters of text to show for about 20 seconds and then it just displays "Ipod". The controls are not very user friendly at all so I'm seriously thinking about selling it now and upgrading to the DEH-P6800MP model only so I don't have to turn around and buy a new Ipod adapter too as I would if I went with a whole different brand name. Anyway, I'm looking for advice from others who currently own a pioneer head unit & Ipod adapter to see what they think about the integration and to help me to decide rather I should go with another brand or stick with Pioneer and / or what model or Brand name?

ok, my last 2 units fried due to some unknown reason, but i think it mayve been caused by the fuse being too high on its amp number, say a 20/25 amp fuse in the place of an outpoint that originally was designed for a 10/15 amp fuse. However the car had had a cd player running like this for a relatively long time, say about 2 years, the one prior to that had fried also, and this last one most recently did too. and trust me i know the smell and the smoke that came out of the reciever's vents on top. In any case, Ive replaced the fuses to their factory specs, and keep in mind that im using stock speakers so theyre not too much of a draw either. I know that there are 3 wires to wire up with the harness. The RED one which is the ACC + that goes to the positive battery terminal, the YELLOW which is a wire that keeps constant power for memory purposes, and the BLACK which is the - Ground. If I were to ground the wire to a spot on the chassis frame that I know works as a great ground. and then run the red and yellow wires on the head unit into the one wire in the car that has constant current to it for memory purposes, would it still work without having to use the car's red acc wire? (im thinking it may somehow be bad) I'm trying to avoid frying anymore head units, getting too costly. Also ive noticed some of my friends have the set up where their car's ignition switch is off and the key is out, yet they can still power on their head units and listen to music. thats what im trying to aqquire. Also the car is a 1995 ford mustang gts (no power windows, power locks, or foglamps) for those who know the car inside and out. I tried to explain every detail i could, but if you can help and want to know more, just ask (i know this car like the back of my hand, every square inch). Thank you

Have a Panasonic head unit in my car, where is fuse located?

Panasonic head unit won't power on, for the past few days it wouldn't turn on and I figured I'd check the fuse first, but I don't know where it is. I took the face place off but I figure it's behind the whole unit? How do I get it out to change the fuse? P.S. I'm a 17 year old girl and I'd rather do it myself then taking it to audio express, etc. It's a Panasonic CQ-DF66 on a 1992 Toyota MR2. I did not install it myself, I believe my older brother did. I haven't messed with anything except the face plate and I doubt my brother messed with anything either, he's good with cars. Too bad he doesn't live with me!

HELP!! How do I wire my head unit's "System Remote Control" if using an Amp. How to factor in parking brake?

I have two questions. 1. I am installing a Pioneer AVH-P3100DVD head unit in my 2010 Mazda 3. I am also installing an amp and two subs. The wiring harness for the head unit has a blue wire labeled "System Remote Control". The wiring harness for the car has a blue wire also, I'm assuming that's what I would normally connect to. However, I am installing the amp which also requires the remote control wire. My question is, how do I wire the three (car harness, head unit and amp) together? Does the head unit even need to be connected to the car with this wire, should I just wire the head unit directly to the amp or does the head unit need to be connected to both the car and the amp via a Y connection? 2. My next question is about the head unit. It has a wire that connects to the parking brake switch. The reason for this is because the head unit has a DVD player and safety feature that won't allow the unit to operate unless the parking brake is engaged and, as far as I know, the unit won't operate at all unless this wire is connected to something. The question is, first, how does a parking brake switch work? Does the switch complete a circuit when it is released (when the brake is on) or does it complete the circuit when it is depressed (when the brake is off)? Next, is it possible to bypass the switch so that the car always thinks the brake is engaged? Better yet is there a way to bypass this on the head unit, and cut out the parking brake completely? So: 1. How to wire system remote control from head unit to car and amp. 2. How parking brake SWITCHES work. 3. Always have brake APPEAR to be engaged. 4. Bypass parking brake switch altogether. You can assume I know very little about car audio installation. Any pictures, websites or other resources would be great. Thanks a lot for your help in advance.

No Bose system with factory sub and on-star. The factory amplifier for the speakers is behind the glove box. I'm not worried about keeping the on-star working, I was just going to bypass it. I was going to order a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X993 off of Crutchfield and get the factory GM wiring harness with it so I can solder all the wires outside the car and just plug it straight in to the stock harness. Quick and easy. My question is, will that hurt the factory amplifier and will there be a sound quality improvement if I go this route? I was told at a stereo shop that I would need to bypass the factory amp if I want to install a new head unit and that I would lose the factory sub...or buy a $70 converter that regulates how much power goes to the factory amplifier and I could plug straight into the stock harness. Not sure if they are just trying to get me to spend more money there or what. Need a second opinion. Let's hear it!

I am currently installing the Sony CDX-GT640UI into my 1999 Ford Explorer. I have a two channel amp that is connect to two 12' subs. I have most of the wire harnesses wires connect. But I have some left that I don't know what to do with. Here they are. Sony Wire Harness: Black: Ground wire with claw Blue: ANT REM. I think it moves the radio antenna up and down but mine always stay up. Blue/White strip: AMP REMOTE IN(AMP REM) Light Blue: ATT Says connect to the inference cable of car phone. So I don't need that. Crutch Field Wire Harness ( Main One) Orange/Black Strip: Negative Dimmer. No place to connect so I don't think I need. Black: Chassis Ground Black/White Strip: Amplifier Ground Crutch Filed Wire Harness ( Small One, none connected yet) Black/White Strip: Amplifier Ground Blue/White Strip: Amplifier Turn-on White Plug: RCA to RCA from receiver. Have no idea what that is.

I have a Honda Accord 2003 LX and I would really like to upgrade my audio system to have an attachment for an aux port, namely an ipod. I went to best buy and they suggested getting an alpine system however, because of the way the heat system is set up in the honda I would have to do more research to find out how to get it replaced. And when it comes to messing with the air conditioning and heat systems to just be able to play an ipod, plus like 130 dollar installation fee (not including the price of the new head unit) is it really worth it/can best buy actually do this without messing things up. Plus the salesperson tried to get me to think about a new amplifier too which seemed like totally unneeded with what i want to do. If anyone has any suggestions or anything or maybe another reputable location please let me know. Thanks!!!

My subwoofer keeps cutting out?

Im not by any means an expert on car audio... I have 2 kicker L5s powered by a 600w Rockford fosgate amp. (all about 7 years old) I use my stock '02 tahoe head unit. I had the subs installed over a year ago...They hit hard for the majority of the year. When the they were installed the guy told me that he did something so that they would cut off before they got too hot or messed up. Now i assumed he was talking about the amp... I didnt know if this was a part or a setting he adjusted . I experienced this "cut-off" a few times after i let them pound for long periods of time. If i cut the car off and back on they would cut on again. Now, the amp is cutting off easier, the same way it used to, but aLOT quicker. Also, sometimes the bass fades in and out during random songs. it can get louder and quieter at any moment. I called the guy back he he checked out all my hookups and said they were fine. He turned up the amp and told me to see if it cut out more. It could not last for over 10 seconds on a rap song. I cut it back down to halfway and it did a little better. however the problem is still there and i cant let my bass hit at full bass for 1 song without it messing up. How can i find the problem?

Naxa NX -670 + AUX cable better than stock radio + cassette adapter?

I have a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero with the factory head unit in. I use a cassette adapter to listen to my iPod now but i have a Naxa NX-670 head unit sitting n my basement. To my knowledge using an auxiliary cable will give me slightly more clear sound. Is this true? I know the NX-670 is a cheap head unit, is it any good? Would it possibly give out any more power than the factory? I have some old Infinity and Polk Audio speakers in the car and am getting like zero bass and only decent sound at higher volumes. I was considering putting this unit and and then considering getting a pair of Alpine type s 3-way 6x9s any suggestions???

Earlier today I got the head unit working somehow, but it didn't take that long to turn back off. The remote wire is connected to the power antenna wire like it should be, the amplifier is connected to the positive side of the battery. All of the fuses are fine. Everything is grounded properly. When I did get the head unit working, sometimes it would turn off and if i pressed on it a certain way, it would come back on again. I'm am thinking of taking it to a professional, but before I put out the money I'd like a second opinion. I have tried it without the remote wire hooked up with the amp wire disconnected to the battery, I still dont get anything though. It is a 2005 lancer with a BOSS head unit, I don't know the exact head unit model, but I can find out if I need to. Thanks design, thats something I've been meaning to do with the meter. I'll report back. The blue and red wire aren't getting power with the car turned on, but the yellow is.

Hey, im looking to buy some new 6x9s for my car to put out some nice highs with my new sub. My speakers wont be running on an amp, just a head unit that puts out 50 watts peak and 20 watts RMS. Is it even worth it to get better speakers that do like 100 RMS over a lower model that puts out 70 RMS?

Different Head Unit and now my stereo has sound for 5 seconds and then drops out?

So i just decided to change out my head unit for one with a bit more functionality... Tore out the old head unit and properly wired the new head unit to the wiring harness. Hooked it up to the car outside of the dash to make certain that it worked and it did fine, so i slid it into the dash and turned the car on to fully test it with my subs... The radio kicked on and started playing the cd, the only problem is the noise only came from the speakers about 5 seconds before cutting out, with the play timer still counting up.. So i pulled the head back out of the dash to make sure i hadn't loosened any of the connections, after a thorough check and wiggling to check for short I discovered nothing wrong... Any ideas what might be wrong or malfunctioning?

So I have a head unit out of a car and a pair of blue neon bulbs that plug into the cig. lighter. I wish to power them inside my apartment at college. Any ideas on how to power these things using a conventional outlet? Also what concerns me is grounding the head unit (the neons wont need a ground) I hooked up computer fans to an old phone charger that was about 5.6v and they run like champs if that gives any ideas. so they sell 12v power supplies? I didn't know that. Can Simeon provide a link to one?

Sony CDX-F5510 Car Stereo Power up issue?

I recently bought this head unit on ebay, the seller was a reputable seller, and the description seemed accurate. They said that it worked fine for them and they hardly used it.. Anyway...... The issue: I installed the head unit into my car, and it clearly powered up, I can see the obviously because it allows me to insert and eject discs, but the faceplate does not power up. And I assume since the faceplate is inoperative, that is causing nothing else to work. Buttons do nothing, and music is not being played from the discs inserted. To cover this base and save time on trolling posts, yes I have pressed the reset button on the unit, and it did nothing except reset the system and eject the disc that i had inserted. Does anyone have a solution? How can i establish if it is a problem with the unit or with the faceplate? I don't want to go spending money on a new faceplate, just for it to still not work. I would also like to add that my car has an anti-theft system (car alarm) If that has anything to do with it, any help would be appreciated. The car is a 2003 Chevy cavalier. There was a yellow 12v constant on the vehicle's harness as well as on the harness adapter I used. perhaps I will check the connection, maybe they are not having enough contact for a full 12v to be conducted. Scratch that last edit, i mixed things up in my mind. I opened up the harness and as you said there is no ignition switch connection.. Where would i run a wire to in the fuse box? I don't want to run it to the wrong location in the fuse box and break something. also there is a purple wire isolated along witht he constant on its own side of the connector in 1A (constant is 1B), but on my harness there is no wire for it to mate. There is also a black or dark blue wire in 5B that is NOT the ground, which also does not have a pair.

Hi. I've got a low range kenwood hu. Kdc-mp243 - http://ae.kenwood.com/Car_Entertainm...vers/KDC-MP243 I've just got 2 sets of speakers plugged into it and I dont expect much since I dont have an amp. But I'd like to do a bit of fine tuning with the unit until I get my hilux roadworthy. The things I can change are - Bass Treble Mid range The minimum setting is -8 and maximum is +8 I've been told this is good. Bass - 8 Treble + 8 (makes volume louder???) Midrange - 3 is that good or is their a better combo. The speakers are some 4 inch worthless speakers but they will do for the time being. I am not interested in new gear until I can get the hilux on the road.

What is the correct way to copy mp3s to a cd to play on a car stereo?

I have a Sony car stereo with a CD player that has mp3 capability. I can get a CD full of mp3s to play on it if I record the CD using iTunes, but the CD isn't organized into album folders. It's kind of a pain to have a CD with 100 songs on it and there is no organization to it. The stereo should be able to select and switch between folders. If I copy the mp3 files to the disc using Windows (Vista) by dragging them and burning them, they don't play in the stereo - and yes, I did finish the disc. Any tips for doing this?

My nephew gave me a MP3 cd with 191 songs in 15 diferent folders. It plays in my computer but not in my car . Using Windows Media Player I selected only the songs to burn as Data CD and it did burn all 191 songs, but somehow it created 2 folders that I did not put it in there. I did this process twice and I can't figure it out how I end up with folders. I also happened using Nero. So, the cds plays in my computer but again not in my car stereo. By the way, my car stereo plays MP3 cds, Ilisten MP3 audiobooks. What is the best way to make a playable mp3 cd for a car stereo ? Any suggestion of any program ?

Sony car stereo radio works but not CD or aux?

The issue here is that I went to hook it up, plugged in the harness, antenna, and amp (for the subs in the back), and I went to check to see if it worked. The speakers only play the music for the radio and not for the cd or axillary input. The subwoofers on the other hand play for the radio, cd and aux. I have already switched out wiring harnesses and that does not work. I thought it could be the stereo, but I tried my friends stereo that we bought BRAND NEW from best buy that day, and it did the same thing (except that the radio didn't work on the speakers, but everything worked on the subwoofers). To make things even stranger, I'm using a POS aiwa head unit that works perfectly fine. If anyone has any ideas they would be welcome, but I have been in the car audio industry for a bit now and don't want any guesses or random jabs at the issue. Thanks!

Powered subs, subs, and head-units?

Ok so I have a 2001 Chevy Camaro (coupe) with its original monsoon speakers and factory stereo system. However, I want to add either one or two subs and get a new head-unit, plus all of the speakers in my car are blown so i will be getting four new ones. All of this kind of stuff really sort of confuses me but i've been trying to research it. If i get a new headunit with it's own built-in amp, can i hook up two regular speakers with it and put subs where the back steroes belong? O could i put in the four peakers plus still get either one or two subs with the built-in amp? And my last question was would i be able to hook up powered subs plus four new speakers into the head-unit. I listed the two headunits i'm looking at below. I don't need hardcore gangster bass, but i'd like it to have some thump, if you could help that'd be great.:) (These are two head units I'm looking, the Boss Audio 755DBi which has: Auxiliary Inputs: The BOSS 755DBI is equipped with a font-panel 3.5mm auxiliary input and a rear-panel stereo RCA input for connecting external portable audio sources. 2CH Preamp Output: The BOSS head-unit is equipped with a pair of 2-volt preamp outputs to connect an external amplifier. and the JVC KD-R600 which has: Amplifier: The JVC CD player features a CEA-2006 compliant MOSFET 20 Watts RMS x 4-channel amplifier into 4 ohms at <1% THD+N with an 80 dBA signal-to-noise-ratio. i have a ford ranger. single cab. i want to get a system that bumps! i want a sub, just one 12". so i need an amp (what size for a 12"?). i already have different speakers in it. (i just replaced the old ones with the ones i have now) how hard is it to wire an amp and sub? and where/how do i start off? my dad knows alot about stereo systems and im sure he could do it but he wont. im going for my lisence today for the 2nd time. he doesnt think i need a system cuz il look like a punk with it. but i want one. tips on hooking it all up? it has a brand new head unit.

I have a 2006 Ford Mustang (V6 Automatic)with the Standard Audio System. I want to get a new head unit, but am not sure which one to get. I know i want a DVD Receiver, but am not sure if i want the AVH-P3100DVD or the 4100 from Pioneer. The Main Differences between these are. - Screen Size - the 4100 has 3 PreOuts and the 3100 has 2 PreOuts - Ipod/USB hook up on the 4100 is in the Rear of the Unit I want to eventually add 2 Door Speakers and 2 Rear Deck Speakers. I am not sure if I am going to add a Subwoofer or two in the trunk or not. Because i am not sure if i am going to need it. I know i am going to add an Amp, but not sure how many ill need for the set ups i want. Either: - 4 Speakers (2 Door, 2 Rear Deck) - 4 Speakers(2 Door, 2 Rear Deck), 1 Subwoofer (Trunk) - 4 Speakers(2 Door, 2 Rear Deck), 2 Subwoofers (Trunk) I am not sure how many PreOuts i will need for this because i am not very familiar with car audio systems. And i am not sure about the Amp to Speaker or Subwoofer relationship, and how they interact and all that. So Mainly i want to know which Head Unit is the best for what i want to "eventually" have. My friend drives an 89 bronco that he has kept nice. It has all new kenwood speakers and a TIS sub and amp. He also has an aftermarket kenwood head unit. It all sounded good after he got it hooked until he got about half way home and everything went silent and the speakers just make a soft thud noise. What i want to know is what could be wrong and what do i need to change in it. I checked all of his fuses on the amp and truck and all are good. thanks for the help!

HIGHEST fidelity car audio components?

Let's just say that money isn't a problem, and I had the means to make the best sounding car system. I'm curious to know which components sound THE BEST. I know this is somewhat a matter of opinon, so I'd like many of them. I know that JBL, JL, Boston, MB Quart, Polk, and Blaupunkt at least used to be known as very good. I know that last year JBL also won some SQ awards for some competition speakers. Give me say,,, the top three brands or so for SQ (not SPL) for mids, subs, amps, crossovers, head units, etc. Thanks! Feel free to include any high end brands I missed.

OK HERE'S THE DEAL I BOUGHT A 96 HONDA DEL SOL EX SHOW CAR FROM CALIFORNIA BUILD BY TEAM GROUND CONTROL. THAT HAS ALL CUSTOM AUDIO (2 ROCK FORD FOSGATE 12'S AND A 600 WATT JVC POWER SERIES) WELL MY HEAD UNIT WORKS BUT NO SOUND COMES OUT OF THE SPEAKERS? SO I TOOK THE HEAD UNIT OUT AND REALIZED NONE OF THE SPEAKERS WHERE ATTACHED TO THE HU SO I RAN TO WALMART GOT THE ADAPTOR AND WIRED IT..THEN STILL NO SOUND..AFTER SOME FURTHER INVESTIGATION I REALIZED THAT THE SPEAKERS (IN FRONT AND BACK) WHERE WIRED TO THE AMP..THE AMP COMES ON BUT NO MUSIC PLAYS WHATS UP? I ALREADY CHECKED THE CAR FUSES (UNDER-HOOD ALSO) AND AMP FUSES...AND THE AMP IS ON POWER WHY DON'T I HEAR MUSIC PLAYING FROM ANYWHERE I DON'T EVEN HEAR A CRACKLE ....WHATS WRONG? Can a car audio system (subs & new head unit) make it so a diagnostics computer can't read anything?

I had some subs, an amp, and a new head unit installed in my car. Hadn't had any problems for about a year after install. Recently it would not start and when the car place tried to hook up the diagnostics computer to it it wouldn't read anything because of a high voltage accessory installed. They reset the computer in it and I have had no problems since. My question is first is this true that my audio system makes the computer unreadable? If so is it the sub or the head unit that makes it unreadable? I just found it hard to believe that my car was the first one the car place had ever seen with an audio system. Any help would be appreciated.

I drive a crappy 2002 cavalier, and i just have the standard speakers and player that came in the car. I am looking to upgrade a little, even though it is not a nice car, i would like to have decent sound. I know good parts are not cheap, but I am not trying to break the bank, or have anything that doesn't serve a noticeable purpose. I am not a genius on this stuff..so what do i need , AMP, Subwoofers , a head unit? What else? Any advice on brands or places to buy or what I should invest in would be great. Another thing to consider is that I will probably only be driving this car for 3 or so more years.

Car Audio and Lighting Questions?

I need some help with outfitting my 2007 Honda Accord I just bought two blue led light strips to put under the driver and passenger dash. A friend of mine recommended wiring the lights to the cigarette lighter with a toggle switch. I'm not exactly sure how to do this but all I know is that I want the whole thing to be clean without wires hanging all over the place and i want to be able to turn the lights on and off. When it comes to the stereo, I have a few questions. I'm a little strapped for cash right now so I only want to install new speakers for now and wait til I have the cash for subs. Anyone familiar with the newer accords knows that the factory head unit is huge and also has the climate control on it so its gonna cost too much and take too much time to install a new head unit. So for now I'm planning on just putting in new speakers. 1.) What brand and size speakers should i install in the doors and rear deck to get the best bang for my buck? 2.) How important are tweeters? 3.) Whats the difference between regular speakers and component systems? 4.) Is it pointless to put in more powerful speakers if I'm not installing a more powerful head unit? 5.) Am I going to have to install a new head unit if i want subs? PS. I know virtually nothing about electrics and cars so if u answer keep in mind u r talking to an idiot

Ok I have this JVC head unit: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-JZ6YPVTVC4l/p_105KDAHD59/JVC-Arsenal-KD-AHD59.html With 4 of these Pioneer 6x8 speakers (no subs,no tweeters etc) http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8680019&type=product&id=1198286346957 When I am parked the speakers sound absolutely fantastic, then as I drive a block or two the sound quality and loudness significantly drops. The speakers don't cutout just drops lower and music starts getting garbled and the bass has A LOT less impact. I just bought this car a week ago and the previous owner had a custom deck in there with the MACH system speakers forcing the tweeters to play everything and sounded like garbage. Since then, I have taken it to Bestbuy where they installed my speakers (I installed the head unit). I only have the head unit powering the 4 speakers and have no idea why the audio drops down and turns to garbage while I drive. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! There is NO AMP, the four speakers are ran directly off of the head unit. I had to take out the MACH amps today since they are only designed to work properly with the stock MACH deck. I just don't understand how the sound is perfect when I start the car and progressively gets worse. Even after I throw it in park if I already drove it it will remain the same garble as it did while driving.

AUDIOPHILES: help a brother out?

Alright. I'm a frugal guy. But still love loud, crisp, mindblowing sound. And since I'm not smart enough, I can't install an audio system in my car . I need everything except a head-unit . I need New speakers, amplifier(s), Subs and box. So I'm going to buy everything and have it installed through a shop. I have $1,200 to buy everything. There are two shops in my area One audio shop is sponsored by Arc Audio, and the other is sponsored by Diamond Audio. I'm not sure what specs are better on which brand, because I'm a complete newbie. I will most likely get only entry-level quality on each individual audio part for either brand. So taking into account all of these things, would you say entry-level Diamond audio, or Arc audio is better? How would you haggle the audio shop for better bang for the buck? 10pts for best answer 10pts for best answer

Amp smokes when power and ground are attached?

I have a Punch 401s Amp with power acoustik 12" sub. I got it from someone who didn't know if it worked or not. When I hooked the Power, ground and remote turn on wires it began to smoke. The head unit was off so it shouldn't have been receiving power in the first place. I opened the amp up and found a couple of blown transistors. Here is a picture of them... http://i968.photobucket.com/albums/ae166/cmason_80/100_5196.jpg There is also a transistor on the opposite side of the board that the corner is missing from. I was wondering what would cause these to blow, and why it smokes even when it doesn't have a remote turn on signal? Is there some way to replace the transistors and repair the amp? Also could this have damaged the Subwoofer? I know I asked a lot of questions there, but I'm completely lost when it comes to car audio equipment.

install mono amp in factory head unit using speaker level inputs?

I just bought a new car but i took my mono amplifier (Alpine MRP-M500) and my subwoofer (Alpine 12" Type R 4ohm) out of my old car. I want to hook this setup into my new car (2002 Ford Explorer). I was going to use Alpine's speaker level input that is installed in my amp. I just dont know exactly how to use this. The speaker level input jack on the amp comes with a wire harness with 4 wires, 1 wire for each speaker. But I only want to amplify my subwoofer, and not the speakers. I figured that I should just use the back 2 speaker wires to connect to the speaker level input jacks, but then i thought... wouldn't this cut the back 2 speakers out of the whole audio system? What should I do to install this amp and sub?? Thanks to anyone who helps out.

What kind of speakers should I install in my 2007 Honda Accord?

I recently purchased a 2007 Honda Accord and I need some stereo advice. I'm a little strapped for cash but I want to improve the stereo system. I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to car audio systems so I'm not sure if new speakers is the right way to go or if I should install a new head unit or subwoofer with amp. Anyone familiar with the newer accords knows how huge the factory head unit is so I'm not sure what to do about that either. Overall, I just want better performance with my car's stereo and I'm not sure what to do. As a side note, the front left speaker is kinda blown out so take that into consideration

12' Sony Xplod Question?

I have 2 12' Sonys Xpoldes in the Rear of my truck with a 800watt Pioneer Amp and a Pioneer Head Unit. It hit really hard now but im new to car audio and someone told me that if i Bridged the amp then i would get double the wattage. What do i need to do to Bridge the amp. What is the process? I really do need more wattage to my subs. In a extended cab pick up truck they hit hard.. But i need just a little more.. Thanks Flat Rabbit Racing I have a Pioneer X334 4 channel amp.
