Good use of crossovers is the absolute main key to getting super clean sound. And they'll help your speakers last a long time.
Equalizers, on the other hand, are for if you have any peaks or dips at certain frequencies. If your music sounds flat or lifeless then get an eq. You shouldn't need much equalization. Minimal boost or cut in the right places will do wonders.
Also, if your music doesn't sound as detailed as you want, more watts will bring out more musical depth, but you still need crossovers.
