stereo sound not stereo any more, only plays left half?

i have a surround sound system hooked up to my comp, it's been workin fin and all of a sudden today i played some songs and noticed that the computer was only playin like the left half of the audio, all the speakers are playin the music, but if the song starts to play right side audio, i can BARELY hear it, i was thinkin it might be an audio driver thing, but i need to work on my car soon and i didnt want to spend time figuring this thing out as well, any help would be much appreciated. (best example, when listenin to shaft theme, the beginning the audio fades between left and right side speakers, but when it fades to the right side, the audio is wicked quiet, nto a problem with the speakers because when the song is playing on all speakers, all speakers are working fine) its not the connection or the balance, in the audio settings, those were obviously the first things i checked, i was actually thinkin that rebootin would probly be the best thing since i was gonna be doin it wihtin a month anyway oh yea, if i put a movie in the dvd player, no audio either

1.Double click on the volume button in your icon tray(extreme right corner where clock appears you will see a loud speaker kind of thing) 2.click on options and then click on advance 3.When the list appears make sure that all the pointers in th balance column are in the middle. Best of luck.

go to control panel -> Sounds and audio devices and select advanced in device volume.... then check whether the balance slider is exactly in the center for all... may be thats the reason for ur problem...

I it is not the drivers it could be the actual connection. The contacts on the speaker line are not getting good connection to the audio card. This happens on headphone connections all the time. It could also be as simple as opening the audio properties in windows and making sure that the balance is set correctly. Also remember that many computer problems can be fixed with a simple re-boot of your system.
