aftermarket cd player installation?

I want to put an aftermarket cd player in my car but went to my local audio shop to get the things i needed and was told that my door chimes and stuff was ran through the radio. the piece he wanted to sell me was 80 dollars. I found an interface adapter at my local walmart and it says it will work as long as there is no onstar or onstar will be bypassed. I was just wondering if it will work cuz its only 38 dollars. the car is a 2002 pontiac grand am. if anyone nows where to get the part or if the part im talken about will work. any info will be great. thanx. plus 10 to best answer.

I put an aftermarket cd in a 2000 grand am. what I bought (and you can get from circuit city if you buy their cd players, sony xplod are excellent btw) was an adapter plate for the the hole the old one came out of, a wiring harness for the wires (I still had to cut and splice but there's a code diagram with the harness. And an extension/adapter for the antenna.
