What to do if your car is stolen?

My car was stolen outside of the Village Mall in Orange County yesterday 2-4-10, I put a police report in and talked to the mall security but they said they can't do anything, and it was just outside Wal-Mart so I talked to them about getting the security tapes but they said only the police can come and look at them. The car is a 1992 Jeep Wrangler, lifted with big tires... and inside it had my computer, rosetta stone, all my cds(75) and dvds (10), and a video ipod. But the main thing is is this has been in my family for so long. And I had liability only for the insurance so I know I'm f*cked with that... but does anyone have any suggestions and ideas whatsoever to do about this?!!? Thank you for any response. : (

You're pretty much f*ucked. What the hell were you doing with over $2,000 worth of belongings inside a Jeep in a Wal-Mart parking lot in California? Thats just a bad move on your part.

Chances are the police simply won't do much about it. If you want to, you can hire a private investigator to look into it.

rent a heap for two weeks -- if it hasn't turned up by then, buy a car. how far is it to Mexico? 150 miles? that's two hours from time of theft to chop shop.

My advice would be to go out hunting in the high crime areas of your town. Pack some heat and don't give up till you find it. It didn't go that far. Criminals steal in their own territory.

You should also notify your insurance company. My car was stolen a few years back and I never heard anything about it.

There's nothing you can do about it. Even if they gave you the security tapes it wouldn't help AT ALL. Tapes help in prosecution if the perps are ever arrested, but rarely help in an investigation. Unless you can look at the tapes and say oh that's so and so stealing my car. Then all it is is a lookout on another unknown person. It depends on why your vehicle was stolen. If it was just joyriders, it will show up in a ghetto area nearby in a few weeks parked in an apartment complex somewhere. If it was stolen for the wheels you had your "big tires" on, then it will show up in a few weeks in the ghetto sitting on blocks. If it was stolen for parts, 92 Wrangler.........maybe, but probably not, then it is already at a chop shop and you can forget about it.

Police do their job and they might find it. Other then that, I think you might need to buy a new car.
