Suggestion on a decent car stereo system?

Hi , I'm buying a used car soon and it's stereo system is all stock. I can't live without music and I love quality sounding music but I don't have much experience with car stereo system setups so I need some advice. I'll be putting it in a 97 integra coupe . What I'm looking for isn't something ridiculously loud and has a lot of bass , I'm looking for more of ... mmm like concert sound. Decent bass and has nice sound surround. That kind of quality. (I hope that describes it --;;) I have no idea where to start when looking for a deck and speakers . For what I'm looking for I don't think I even need a sub? So if anyone could recommend me some setups for what I'm looking for I'd be very greatful! Thank you! Oh and for my budget , my tops would be 1k usd .

i have always had and loved JVC receivers. I have had cerwin vega subs and rockford fosgate go rockford I buy generic amps that have a good reccomendation. Mobile Authority makes great low cost amps. boxes are a dime a dozen, buy a sealed box. you don't need band pass or ported. just extra stuff that's not necessary. make sure you buy DVC(dual voice con) subs. they sound so much better. Currently I run in my pickup truck in the cab with me. JVC receiver/1 x 800watt Rockford Fosgate DVC 10 inch sub in a box i built/powered by an 800watt dual channel Mobile Authority Amp 400x2 that I bridged to 800x1/i have pioneer 3 way speakers all the way around. my total system cost about 850 3 years ago. go to like best buy or circuit city and look around for what you like. write down model numbers and then shop online. compare places that you have to pay tax vs the shipping price.. I'm wuite fond of shopping.yahoo.com and just enter in the model numbers you wrote down at best buy or circuit city.

Alpine head unit. Perfect if you have an ipod because you dont have to pay extra for the ipod connectivity that also charges the ipod. (with most brands of head units, you have to pay around 80 bucks just to buy the piece that connects the ipod)....i bought alpine speakers too. they have great sound quality, and have lasted long. they have LOUD bass as well. i spent around 400 or 500 dollars with installation at best buy. Also, best buy offers this deal where for a hundred bucks, you get free uninstall if you get a new car, and new speakers if you blow them out, or whatever etc.......hope u figure it out

For the head unit, go with something that has the features you want (satellite ready, remote controll, Mp3, Ipod). You will want 3 RCA outputs. Front speakers, go with components. Components broaden the front sound stage. Seperating the tweeters from the midrange makes a huge difference in the sound. Rear speakers, 2 ways or 3 ways will do fine, just something for rear fill. and a 4 channel amp to push them. the amp should match the RMS rating on the speakers (75 watt RMS speakers, 75watts per channel amp or 75x4). If you want a sub, go with a single 8 or 10 in a sealed box. This will give you a clean warm low end that is not overpowering. and there is no difference in the sound between a single and a dual voice coil. Stick with brands you know (pioneer, kenwood, clarion, alpine) they will cost a little more, but you are paying for a quality difference, not just a brand name.
