Open Question

Scion XD, 40w x 4, unhook rear speakers, for 100w (min) box?

I'm thinking of doing something really stupid, 2009 Scion XD, factory system, 40 watts x 4, but 6 speakers? I wanna unhook the rear speakers, and tie in, a 100 watt (minimum) sub box, mind you NO AMP, but, I looked behind the radio, and there is an open plug attachment, there is an available amp/sub upgrade, but can I just do the other instead???
