If you have an automatic start car alarm, can you drive it without the key?

Looking into car alarms and curious if I will be able to drive without the keys or not, and do they make a car alarm like that? Or would I have to put the key in in-order to shift out of park? I have about 37 keys I use frequently and hate them dangling and swinging whenever I turn, oh yeah and my car keeps getting broken into! grrr...

My computer science teacher has a car that requires no key, just a code. My camaro has the auto-start feature, but without the key in the ignition it will not let you move the stick out of park so :

Some very high end cars have a push button start facility but you still have to carry a sensor that allows the car to know that you are the true owner and let you open the door. So instead of a key you'd have to carry the sensor.. I don't think I have heard of any car manufacturers that have introduced biometric entry for their vehicles but its sure to come along.. till then you have to suffer the 37 keys... :-)
