How to improve stock stereo for 2009 Civic (not premium stereo).. ?

I have a 2009 Civic with a standard stereo (6 speakers, aux jack). The sound is ok, but I would like to improve the sound without having to replace the head unit. What would be the best way for me to get a good sound (I don't want to wake up the neighbors, but have it sound great inside the car), without having to replace too many things (i.e. head unit, speakers, etc). Thanks!

Well, adding and equalizer between your headunit and speakers is a start. stock speakers are ok but for sound quality the paper cone doesnt really do the trick. Upgrading the speakers in your car is the next or first step depending what you wanna do. Adding an Amplifier is the next best thing after upgrading the speakers. Your current headunit only gives out between 15-30 watts rms, even though it says 50watts rms. You want to get a 4 channel amplifier to power all your mids. If you want better lows, which can greatly increase sound quality, get a 5 channel amp that has a built in subwoofer channel to it for later addition of a subwoofer. You have to set your equalizers and gain just right which can be tricky to an untrained ear, but you can also have a professional do it for you. Using a cd or AUX device will reduce distortion that you would get from a radio station.
