How do you turn your car alarm sound on / Off?

I have a 2000 dodge intrepid. I locked the car with and the single "beep" from the alarm went of like always, but now the alarm doesn't sound at all. the Lock or unlock doesnt sound. any suggestions? have a 2000 dodge intrepid.
