How do you hook up a car amp and stereo to work in your house?

I went to a flea market some time ago, where they sold audio accessories and they had stereos, amps, equalizers and subs hooked up and playing. How do you do this?

You need a 12 volt power supply to do it. A head unit is fairly simple, since it doesn't use all too much power, the power supply it needs is fairly small. I've even powered some off a salvaged power brick that used to go to a cordless phone (you know those power cords, with the huge brick on the plug end?) As long as it gives 12 volts DC, and at least an amp or so (1000mA or more), it should be adequate for anything but full volume output. An amplifier is more difficult though.... they suck down a lot of amps of power, and a 12 volt DC power supply big enough to provide that kind of juice, is going to be expensive. They're out there.... but I'd really recommend just buying a home theater amplifier/receiver.... it'll be cheaper.

With a power inverter, store like Best buy have them. If you was lucky, Circuit City was actually selling their inverters to anyone that wanted them. I use a car battery charger for all my bench testing when working on car audio equipment. I wouldn't recommend this method as a longer term solution to running your car audio equipment. but it aa good way to test an amp or head unit be for install. Good luck.

Besides bringing a car battery into your house, which will only last a few hours. You will have to buy a converter. AC/DC. You will have to have a converter to handle 12 volts and at least 30 amps. A cheap 40 amp will cost you at least $100 OR more. my suggestion is just buy a home amp or receiver and hook up your speakers through that.(that's for your amp) as far as the radio or CB you can just use any cheap AC/DC converter. You can get one from walmart for 20 buck. Just cut the cord connect the wires where they need to go and wallah. Your done.
