Car audio wiring gauge?

I am running two 12" Kicker CompVR sub woofers powered by a 2-Channel Sony XPlod 1200 watt amplifier. I bought the Schosche wiring and capacitor combo pack. It comes with 5+ gauge wire (although it doesn't specify whether is copper clad aluminum or straight copper) and a capacitor. Is this wiring kit good enough for my set up. I don't want to over heat my amp or anything.

I'm not aware of a true 1200w 2 ch from Sony so I guess you mean 1200w max. From what I could find that equates to something around 500w rms if it's producing optimal power. For reference I'm looking at the xm-gtr2022 amp. A 500w rms amp will typically work fine with 8 gauge or larger. That particular amp recommends 4 gauge for some unknown reason, but 5 gauge will get it done.
