Car amplifier putting out very low volume?

Any ideas? Amp is getting power, but I need to turn the headunit way up in order to hear the sound - which is faint. Volume all the way up puts out a level 2 on a scale 1-10. Headunit was fine without the amp. Thanks

It's called gain. There is a little dial on the amp which controls the gain, make sure this is set correctly. If you are good with a multimeter, there is a method of correctly setting the gain, but if you're not too savy with electronics, turn the gain such that the sound coming out of the speakers is distortin when your car stereo is at approx. 80% volume. --If this doesn't fix the issue, then you might have your speakers inverted (if they're subs), this will cause both of them to move, but the sound will be negated by each other, so it is usually VERY faint. Only applies to subs though, it's very hard to detect in rull range speakers that are spread apart.
