Can someone help me with a few car audio questions?

Looking to replace the stock speakers in my girlfriend's car, a 2001 VW Jetta. I am looking to replace the two front speakers and the two rear speakers. Question #1 is do I need to disconnect the tweeters separately or will they be disconnected when the stock speakers are taken out? #2. How do I find out what the stock system has in terms of Watt output (if i said that correctly)? Should I find speakers that are the same, or will any do? Any other info that may be useful would be great.

I Think, the Tweeters will stop when you take the speakers out, assuming they are connected in some way, if not you can just snip the wires if you don't care about them. Watts really don't matter all that much, if your adding speakers to a stock stereo I would imagine peak wouldn't be over 30 or 35 or so for the radios output. Just keep your RMS or nominal power fairly low on the new speakers. 50 Watts nominal are generally what you find on regular mid level speakers for a car now and days, and they should work. If they don't just take them back and exchange them :-/
