you have to look up the subs specs, see what its freq range is, and set the low pass filter on your amp powering the sub, its a built in crossover on the amp, you dont need to mess with your head unit much. on the amp for your 4 interior speakers, set the built in crossovers for your highs and mids in the frequency range of the speakrs you have hooked up to it. You can then use the GAIN knobs on both of your amps, to adjust how powerful the signal being recieved to the amps are, in turn making your system louder. I turn the gain up 1/2 way on the highs an mids and 1/2 way o the sub amp. You can fine tune the mids, highs, lows from your headunit, but that will only affect speakers recieving signal from your headunit. the speakers u have connected from your amps, thats where you mess with high mids lows from. now if your headunit has more then one PRE-OUT, like mine has 3...one should be seperate for the sub channel, so you can turn it off an on while playing everythign else, and keeping the EQ on the radio seperate from your sub. it just takes some reading and understanding andyou will be fine.
